Congratulations to GCHS junior, Madison Durham! 👏🎶 Madison has made it to the final round of the Governor’s School for the Arts auditions for Vocal Music! She will take the next step in this process with a live audition in March. GSA is a highly competitive program that offers 10th and 11th graders a three-week immersive arts experience in the summer, along with incredible scholarship opportunities. We are so proud of Madison and wish her the best in the next round!

Congratulations to our students for being named 1st Place State Winners in the 2024-2025 Kentucky State Daughters of the American Revolution Junior American Contest! Their submissions, including stamp designs, banners, photographs, and more, showcased their talent and creativity. We are proud of their achievement! 👏

Welcome to the GC family, Ms. NaKay Murray! We are excited to have Ms. Murray join us as a Business & Marketing teacher! A Somerset native and Eastern Kentucky University graduate, she has a passion for business and FBLA that started in high school and continues to grow. When she’s not in the classroom, she loves reading, watching scary movies, and spending time with her Great Dane, Zeus! We can’t wait for her to bring her enthusiasm and expertise to our students. Welcome to the GCHS family, Mrs. Carrie Elleman! 🦁👏 We are thrilled to have Mrs. Elleman join us for the 2025-2026 school year! With 20 years of experience working with students with disabilities and a strong connection to Garrard County, she brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to our team. A University of Kentucky, Georgetown College, and University of Louisville graduate, Mrs. Elleman is dedicated to supporting students and helping them succeed. She and her family are proud supporters of the GC Lions, and we can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make at GCHS! A little about Mrs. Elleman: She graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of Kentucky, a Masters in Learning and Behavior Disorders from Georgetown College and a Masters and Rank 1 in Moderate and Severe Disabilities from the University of Louisville. Her husband, Jon, is a graduate of GCHS and a business owner and coach here in the community. They have three children; Hayden (19), Eva (17) and Grayson (13). They love spending time outdoors and are avid sports fans, especially of the GC Lions and Centre Colonels!

📢 Calling All 10th-12th Grade Student Leaders! Join us for the Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District Youth Ambassador Leadership Conference at the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics! The Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District Youth Ambassador Leadership Conference will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 7:45 AM to 12:30 PM at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics. This non-partisan, educational experience provides high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the Sixth Congressional District with a unique opportunity to hear directly from Kentucky leaders while also serving as ambassadors for their schools. Applications are open until February 20, 2025, and can be found at barr.house.gov.

🗓Save the Date! Garrard County High School Project Graduation is hosting a Mother/Son, Father/Daughter Dance on February 28th from 6:30-8:30PM in the GCHS Cafeteria! Tickets are $12 per couple and $4 for each additional child, with concessions and pictures available for purchase. Any special person can bring an elementary child, and no one will be left out or turned away. Check the flyer for more details!

📢 DATE CHANGE! Mark your calendars! The Garrard County High School Fashion Show will now take place on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025- 6:30PM, at the Garrard Middle School Auditorium. This event will feature original student designs from Mrs. Arnold’s Fashion Design class, with all proceeds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House. For just $5, you can support a great cause while enjoying an evening of creativity and talent. Plus, the GC Jazz Band will be performing! We can’t wait to see you there!

Congratulations to our Bowling Team on a strong showing at Regionals! 🎳 Our team placed 5th out of 19 teams in the Team Event, showcasing their hard work! In the Singles Event, Nick Gabbard finished 27th, Owen Lane placed 36th, and Wyatt Fielder secured 48th out of 76 bowlers. A special shoutout to Tanner Million, who had an outstanding performance, finishing 9th—just seven pins shy of making the top 8! Tanner earned a spot on the Region 8 All-Stars Team for the fourth consecutive year! He will compete in the All-Stars event on Saturday, February 22, in Richmond. Way to go, Lions!

During 6th Period today, our FBLA had the honor of hosting Miss Kentucky! She gave an inspiring presentation about the incredible work of Honor Flights KY. 🇺🇸

Congratulations to Garrard County High School student Abby Fathergill for winning Farmers National Bank’s Lights, Camera, Save! financial education video contest for Garrard County!👏 Abby’s video, "Money Doesn’t Grow on Trees," highlighted the importance of managing money wisely and earned her a $500 prize. You can watch her winning video on the bank’s Facebook page. The contest, sponsored by the American Bankers Association Foundation, empowers teens to educate their peers about good money habits through creative 30-second videos on topics like saving, budgeting, credit scores, and more. Garrard County High School students submitted many fantastic videos, with additional winners receiving cash prizes. Great job to all who participated!

Calling all K-7th grade dancers! Join us for our upcoming Dance Clinic on January 25th, hosted by Garrard County High School's Dance team. For just $25, each dancer will receive a T-shirt, participate in the clinic, and have the opportunity to perform at the GCHCS Boys’ Basketball game on January 30th. Garrard County High School would like to officially welcome Mr. Jordan Humphress to the GCHS team!👏 We are excited to welcome Jordan Humphress as the new Band Director at Garrard County High School! With an impressive background, Jordan served as Director of Bands at Adair County High School from 2021 to 2024, leading the program to numerous accolades, including three KMEA State Championships, a Bands of America Class A Regional Championship, and the prestigious John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Shield. Beyond these achievements, he has worked with ensembles of all kinds, from jazz bands to winter guards, and has guided countless students to success in district and state honors programs. Jordan’s dedication to music education and his vision for excellence will undoubtedly inspire our students and community. Welcome to the GC family, Mr. Humphress! We’re excited for the future of our band program under your leadership!

Garrard County High School Gear Up students visited Kindergarten classrooms at Camp Dick Robinson and Lancaster Elementary, spreading holiday cheer!🎄Students helped with making a holiday craft and read books to our younger students!

Our GCHS Dance Team is hosting an Open Dance Clinic and Tryout! The clinic will take place in the GCHS cafeteria on December 9th from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Tryouts are scheduled for December 11th at 3:30 PM. This opportunity is open to all current 7th-12th graders.
